Unless there's some kind of age distance rule, where there's a cutting-off point where it'd be unlawful to consensually be with a 16- or 17-year-old. Not sure about that.

What's messed up is certain states have the marriageable age set lower than the age of consent, which is totally bonkers. OK, so you can have a young teenage spouse, but if anyone finds out you're havin' sex with him/her, yer in fer a whuppin'!

I think Kansas or Arkansas has a rule that two kids age 14 can marry as long as one of the marrying families owns a pig.


And Florida law allows me to have sex with any girl 16+ as long as I'm 23 or younger. Even if 16 is legal, I wouldn't date a girl unless she was in college or near the end of high school (and I knew her well enough. Yet, I have seen some twenty year olds who look like they're in middle school, poor girls get denied from clubs even though they're of age and using real ideas.

On the flip side, though, many high schoolers/underage kids look much older than said (like me). I went to a bar with a friend to drink up the night and they carded the friend (who was of age) instead of me just because he looked younger (he's 23).
