~Academy Community Thread~

My anxiety has gotten worse because I've had to deal with so much lately. I think it's just hitting me pretty hard right now. My friends constantly make fun of me for freaking out over small things. It's not something easy to control--obviously, who WANTS to stress out for no reason? ha

No worries. I'm studying psychology with an emphasis on family and child development. If I become a psychologist, I hope to fix all the kids out there that feel like I always did.
I've considered going to law school after I get my bachelor's degree, though. I think I'd want to do estate planning if I did law school.

Its so hard to stop stressing. I hope you find something that can make you sit down and relax whenever you start to stress.

Thats really cool. Its sweet that you want to help the kids out in the world who need it.

i've been doing a lot of driving/riding with music and looking at the stars. they're the best things I've found to clear my mind or think things through.

I just know how unfair it is for kids to feel unwanted/unloved. However, sometimes I just feel like psychology is a pretty bullshit field. I guess it just can't help everyone.

What is it you're wanting to do?

I haven't looked at the stars in ages. I used to lay out in my yard at night and state at them for ages when I had nothing to do.

Helping one person is better then helping none. Sadly not everyone can get the help they need but helping a few can change the world.

Well I was rejected from everything that I wanted to do at university. Thats what I get for drinking throughout my HSC and not studying. I was accepted into the bachelor of computing, which isn't something that I'm good at but I plan to work my arse off and get the highest marks I can. We get heaps of electives we can choose across every field in the university so I'm still plotting out what I'll take when my electives come around. The computing course looks more interesting then I thought but I just don't know how well I'll do. I'm happy if I just get pass marks so I can walk away with a degree in 3 years time.

I never could see the stars when i was little... We had too many trees around our house. So, we found this great place to go park here and look. We've been going a lot. I love it. I suggest it if you ever just need to think.

I'd feel pretty fulfilled if I could have an impact on just one person's life. I know my brother and I never got the help we needed. My life has influenced my choices a lot. I'd love to change the world, but I'm not that optimistic!

If you work toward the computer thing and get good marks, would the other programs not reconsider?? I don't know how university works there... Here you can do any program you want at most universities. My first degree will take 3.5-4 years to get. I'm a little over halfway there, so I'll get it either december of 2010 or may or 2011.
Then at least 2 more years to get a master's. bleh.

I like to climb up into the trees and lay out on a large branch that will take my weight and look at the stars but sadly my place just has an open back yard with small trees that won't hold my weight if I climbed onto the branches.

I'm sure you'll make great changes to heaps of kids lives once you start to work in that field.

I can transfer after one year but I need extremely high marks to be accepted. If I complete this degree I can go into any course I choose without having to meet any of the criteria that applies. I think I'll stick with computers and use the electives to check out other fields and then once I complete my bachelor of computing and start working I'll decide what I want to do and then apply to do another degree. I'd only apply for another degree if I didn't fall in love with working with computers. I don't mind computers but I'm not that intelligent in the field so it'll be a struggle for awhile. It seems like such a long time before you get your degree but I'm sure the time will fly by for you and you'll be graduating in no time.

I never climbed trees when I was a kid... still don't.

Ah. I'm sure you'll succeed in the field (or any, for that matter). I hope you do enjoy it and it saves you the hassle of more school. However, don't settle for it. If you're not happy, don't think you'll stick it out for the rest of your life. There's nothing good about going to a job you hate everyday.

I don't like to climb up too high. Heights scare the shit of me most of the time. Only time I found fun with heights was me and some of my friends used to jump off the balconies at school to avoid some of the crowds of people moving in between classes. Due to that we all got sent to the counselor as the teachers thought that we had some sort of suicidal tendencies.

If I actually study I'll be fine. I want to learn heaps but I think I need to focus on just one or two areas and make myself highly proficient in those areas instead of trying to learn bits and pieces of everything. I find it funny that I hated learning throughout nearly my whole entire high school life and now that I've graduated I want to learn more and more.

Too funny. When I was little, my father thought I was going to jump off the balcony at a hotel... I got my way with whatever I was mad about, but the thought to pretend to do that never crossed my mind.

I'm similar. I'd love to take a little of everything. Honestly, I have taken a good bit I don't need. 2 extra maths just because I love math. But now I'm trying to focus on psychology and get out... Well, starting next semseter, i will.

Parents freak out so easily. That idea might be a way to easily get whatever it is that you want but I don't think such a plan would work at my age.

I like maths but I was a poor student for my maths classes for like the last 3 years so I'm pretty bad at it but I'm thinking of taking some basic maths workshops at uni to see if I can get into it. If I do well in the workshops I might do some of the maths courses that I can do during my spring session. Psychology sounds like such a demanding field but I know you'll do well with helping the kids

He was only scared that he'd get in trouble for neglect or something... not that i might have been upset enough to kill myself. I should have used that more, though. I wasn't a very smart kid when it came to mind games.

I've not gotten too far in with actually psych courses yet. So it's been pretty easy so far. I dread the second half when EVERYTHING I take will be psychology. haha I'll make it. Thanks, I sure hope so!

Well whenever you get stuck you can always post asking for help. I'm sure between all of us here we can come up with an answer that you'll help you out.

Well I'm off. Uni starts on Monday and there's still heaps of stuff I want to try and get done before I lose nearly all my free time. Its been good to have a chat with you Shea

i left before you did... ha my roommate and i got hungry and went to get food. except my driver's side window on my car quit working tonight. i'll add that to my list of problems. this week is great!!

You guys were fairly active today. I was surprised. May not be the WORST month after all...

mostly because we both happened to be on at the same time and got a conversation started.

if it is the worst month, we can always blame it on the fact that it's the shortest month.

It's not even that... We haven't gotten 400 posts in A MONTH. That's terrible. We used to get that every night.
