When I first got the rash I'd been using Clean and Clear and I think switched to Neutrogena as well. I went to the doctor and he told me it was eyebrow dandruff so I should use anti dandruff shampoo. I used head and shoulders but that didn't do the trick and used Neutrogena T-Gel which is some hardcore shit that has coal tar in it. I didn't have any dandruff but the redness remained.
I went back and he told me it was something else, so he prescribed some cortisone cream (2% cortisone) and that didn't help. I went back again and he said it was a fungus and I should use antifungal medication on it. So I put Lamasil on it. Kind of humiliating but that's what the doc said to do. That didn't work.
By this time I was no longer covered by my mom's insurance so the next time I went back the doctor said he didn't know what it was and referred me to a dermitologist, however, I had to pay 100 bucks just for him to say he didn't know what it was. I said fuck that. Then my mom said I should go get a facial because they could tell me what it was. They told me all sorts of stuf and gave me stuff to put on my face but it never really went away. Also in the long run going to get facials ended up being more than the 100 bucks I spent for the doctor to tell me he didn't know what was going on so eventually I stopped going (also I got laid off so it was a good excuse )
The only thing that really did help was Aveeno 1% cortisone cream. So I used that some but I had kept using Head and Shoulders because I figured maybe it was still the dandruff thing. One day I just sat down and figured I'd do a differential diagnosis of what was going on. I stopped washing with cleansers, even gentle ones. Stopped using head and shoulders, and that made it better. Now I just wash my face with a dove bar. If there is some redness I can use the Aveeno cream and that helped too.
So whatever is going on with you the best thing I can recommend is this: [You must be registered and logged in to see this link.]

This reminds of this one winter when I had really flaky dry skin on some parts of my face. It wasn't that bad, but it was noticeable enough. I randomly went to the grocery store and picked up this facial moisturizer. It seemed nice enough, but after a few days I started noticing that my skin was getting dryer. So, I started putting more moisturizer on it, and it started getting really red and irritated in some places. It was getting way out of hand. This went on for a good month or so before I said "fuck it" and stopped using the moisturizer for a little bit. Then my face slowly got better.
I was reacting pretty badly to whatever was in that shit. Later, I also realized that my original problem of flaky dry skin was because my face-wash was too harsh.

I skimmed this thread and have the following comment to make:
I go through shampoo really quickly. Usually I use one bottle per two weeks. Chap stick is for queers.

I have fairly long hair and it takes me a while to go through shampoo and conditioner. But you guys should consider using a safety razor with some shave soap. much cheaper than cream and gets a much better shave IMO

Shaving cream isn't expensive to begin with

I have about 30 times as much hair as you do but take at least a month or two to go through one bottle of shampoo.

Soap definitely is cheaper. No can to rust, somewhat less messy, probably healthier for your skin as well. Plus I think I spent like 8 bucks for 100 razors each which last about 5 shaves. Got tired of buying replacement cartridges on my razor which cost about 20 bucks for maybe 5 replacements. Complete rip off

I use shampoo every morning. I like feeling really clean.
And I use an electric razor and shave regularly. No shaving cream necessary.

I probably have the longest hair here, I use shampoo every day, and I don't go though one bottle every 2 fucking weeks. You're using way too much.

I don't know if I've ever seen shaving soap, but a can of shaving cream is only like 2 bucks or something. And I hate shaving with those disposable razors. They don't get nearly as good a shave.

and there is a good amount of shave soap you can find on amazon. This is what I bought a few months ago and I still haven't gone through the first box [You must be registered and logged in to see this link.]

I used to go through tons of shampoo, but now I went for the "pre-empting my boldness"-routine of trimming my hair down to 6mm, since then I've been much cheaper off. My scalp tends to not like many shampoos though, gets irritated by most cheap brands. I do shampoo daily, which I know isn't really the best option, but I get very greasy hair if I don't.
Since we're on the subject of cheap hygien + shaving, though I have a tip that might actually prove useful: I bought my last set of 6 Mach 3 razor-blades last June. Been shaving once every two or three days since.

don't you have to buy some kind of foil or something?

I'm not going to buy fucking shaving soap on Amazon, are you insane? I'll eat the extra fucking dollar for a can of shaving cream.

In regards to Shrike's post, that's a pretty ingenious way to keep a razor sharp. I never would have thought of that.

oh, I didn't know what you were talking about. I didn't actually click on his link (until now) so I didn't know what you were talking about. He said shaving soap was cheaper, but shaving cream is only like 3 or 4 dollars a can or something so I figured shaving soap was like 1 or 2. My point was that I'm not going to buy shaving products off of amazon just to save a dollar.
